The Israeli Leadership Council and The Milstein Family Foundation have joined forces to place Shlichim from Israel on five college campuses across Southern California: University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA); University of California, Irvine (UCI); University of Southern California (USC); Cal State Northridge (CSUN); and University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). In addition, the ILC supports the local Israeli Scouts and sponsors three Tzofim Shlichim including Shevet Chen, Shevet Harel and Shevet Tapuz.
Shlichim, Hebrew for emissary, are Israelis that serve as ambassadors for Israel in the United States as a cultural and educational link between students and Israel. Shlichim work to provide great support to students, foster engagement, and act as a resource to students interested in Israel, recruiting for such trips as Birthright.
As campuses all over America are becoming hostile environments for pro-Israel students, it is pertinent now more than ever to provide support for our students. As representatives of Israel, the Shlichim train students in advocacy and assist them with initiatives to further “Hasbara” for Israel. With this initiative, we hope to make our students more powerful and proud advocates for Israel.
The ILC thanks Board Members Gila and Adam Milstein of The Milstein Family Foundation for their commitment to students and for making this important mission possible. Gila and Adam's contributions to the community continue to inspire us all and their leadership and dedication to enhancing a shared future for Israel and the United States is steadfast.
