Co- sponsored by the ILC, Israeli Scouts groups Shevet
Chen and Shevet Harel participated in the annual conference of “Mechaneh
Shachbag” at Camp
Ramah in Ojai. This
annual retreat, designed to connect Shevet counselors and Counselors in Training
(CIT) from all over the US
and Canada,
is the biggest event for these young leaders. Over 320 participants, ages 14-18,
from 14 different Israeli Scouts groups were in attendance, 48 of them from
Shevet Chen, the largest delegation at the retreat, and 10 from the new Shevet
Harel. This year’s theme was “Salat Israeli,” or the cultural melting pot in Israel, and
participants were challenged with the question of identity and were asked which
culture they identify most with. The highlight of the conference was “Erev
Tzababa” where each Shevet put on a show connected to the theme of “identity.” After
three days of bonding, participants came away from the trip happy and more
united. In March, the 9th graders of the Shevet, who are its future
leaders, will be going to a counseling seminar in New York in preparation of their new role.
